McKenzie is a man who works hard and plays hard. And he needed
the perfect bathroom in which to soak away the toils of a long day.
Paul Reeves, owner of Your Dream Bathroom, took up the challenge.
His company does exactly what it states - creates your own personal
haven. On my first visit to Greg's bathroom, I knew that the room
would have to be gutted and reconstructed, Paul says. For me to
achieve the contemporary, luxurious look Greg wanted, I had to strip
the room bare. The original flooring, large airing cupboard and
roof panels were ripped out, vastly opening up the entire space.
Paul advised Greg to consider extra skylights to allow more natural
light. This was a success, allowing for darker materials, such as
the black granite, to sit unobtrusively within the decor scheme,
explains Paul.
Multiple spotlights, from Wickes, were installed in the ceiling,
allowing for soft and specific lighting. Pauls pride and joy is
the black granite, from Granite Woods. It frames and contrasts the
huge inset Jacuzzi bath from Bete, and the outsized Zero Kono porcelain
sink.

Paul wanted the large sink to appear free-standing, and in
order to achieve this, he fitted a granite frame around the
basin itself. However, on cutting the granite, his team found
it worked better as a shelf, supporting the sink and cleverly
hiding the pipework.
Greg used luxury bathroom company CP Hart for some of the
best black porcelain floor tiles that money can buy and Paul's
idea for the mortar around the tiles created an unusual, contemporary
design feature.
The large shower unit used to be an airing cupboard, but Paul
added black marble mosaic tiles from Topps Tiles, a chrome
shower and a glass screen. This vast fixed glass panel gives
the impression of an open walk-in shower.
Greg's
final word on the finished result: My main criteria was a
relaxing, modern, and practical bathroom and Paul has helped
me achieve all three.
